out and about with twins

Here are our/my tactics when going out with the babies:
- go with another female. this works really well with jackie. people assume one baby is hers, one is mine.
- put one baby in a carrier, one in the stroller. people assume the stroller is empty and just there for backup.
- we used to snuggle both babies in the carrycot of the single stroller. but now tehy're too big for that.
- blake and I each take a baby in a carrier. we do this often for the grocery store, and when we're in the store we split up. if we meet up in the store (did you get the peanut butter or should I?) Blake will just keep walking when people ask questions. I find myself automatically stop, and then wish I hadn't. But usually I can say, "well, I have to go catch up with my husband now..."

Why do we have these tactics? Because this video is SO true... and so funny to me - hope it's funny to you too.

I have literally been asked every single question in this video. One time I sat outside of Jamba Juice with the babies while Blake ordered a drink and I had almost that entire conversation. I was so surprised that a complete stranger would ask about IVF and then keep asking! (You all can ask whatever you want since I know you, but a complete stranger?) The other comment I get from A TON of people is, "well now your family is complete all at once!" I do find that absolutely amazing. Considering that Blake and I don't know if we're done having kids, it's amazing that so many random people think that they know!

okay, but I didn't write this post to complain, I'm just sharing because Blake and I found it so funny and even if you don't think it's funny, it's always funny to see what blake thinks is funny... but hopefully you did think it was funny.

  1. Yes, it was funny ... but a bit sad too! I cannot believe that people are so outrageous, and yet I do remember even with just one baby at a time, that people said bizarre things to me (although on a much smaller scale). I'm glad you shared it. I will certainly be more sensitive about what I say to twin-parents from now on. I've probably said something stupid and not even realized it :)

CANNOT WAIT to see you and your family in a few weeks! So excited to meet Kaylee and Ethan.

  2. Well I just thought it was HILARIOUS! I always feel funny when we're out and people think one is mine because I feel like I should give you the credit for caring for two adorable, healthy twins, but I guess I should just roll with it - haha. :)

  3. haha that's awesome! 'Oh I have to go now... Thank God.'

People are stupid - I still remember carrying Sabria around when she was about 4 weeks old while out with Vanessa... aka I was nearly 9 months pregnant and was asked 'oh she's so cute, is she yours?' 'OH SURE lady, I just left the other one baking for a while longer - that seemed more prudent!'

those same people made this video too about how to become an architect. It was so so incredibly true, and I laughed about it for days.

  5. That video is hilarious. I saw one like it (same characters) where the blonde one was one of those super-crunchy granola know it all moms who was chastising the other mom for not using cloth diapers and whatnot :) That's funny though- I never dreamed people would ask such things- when I saw the part about "out and about with twins" I thought it was all about the logistics of moving two babies and never even guessed you would have to deal with all that. I will definitely be more sensitive if I see a mom with twins (although I would have to be observant enough to notice, first, hahaha). Although, people say a lot of annoying things when you only have one baby so apparently carrying a baby is equivalent to wearing a sign that says, "Please, ask me any personal question you want!"
