- we went to southern ca for our first just-the-four-of-us family trip. sea world, the sd zoo, and even a day at disneyland. overall it was a fantastic trip.
- then we came home. oh good ol' home. except, it was not good... the sound of rushing water greeted us as we opened the door btwn the garage and our house. a pipe under our kitchen sink had burst while we were gone. we looked down to see we were standing in half an inch or so of water. it was midnight, so I took the kids and put them to bed, and blake turned off the water to our whole house. after sweeping water out onto the deck, using up all of our towels soaking up water, and calling our insurance, we headed to bed ourselves. the next morning a plumber came and the pipe was fixed.
let us just say the damage was extensive. new kitchen floors. new family room carpet. new partial cabinets or whole cabinets, still tbd on that one. new paint because they had to replace some of the dry wall. we've been living w/ our parents / in laws, switching locations back and forth. I could say a zillion things (like how incredibly fortunate we are to have in laws and parents that can and will host us for weeks at a time) but the point of this post is granite. which do you like? we've narrowed it down to two that we both like and can afford (key features). :)
Leopard River by KT, square edge only.
so what do you think? which is your fav?
I prefer the top one for overall look and quality (rounded that you want) That said we have squared granite on ours (or at least not as rounded as your first pictures show) so ultimately it shouldn't be a hazzard if you went with squared edging unless it's sharp (which seems silly on their part) Ace hasn't run into anything and he's at that height at the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the Solaris one too-- it looks like it's a little more neutral looking, which I kind of prefer in the big ticket items. I mean, if you don't like the spottiness (is that a word?) in the 2nd one after a few years, you're stuck, or you're out a bunch of $ to change it. That said, I think they're both pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAlso-- BUMMER! about the flooding. That's not something you want to come home to. :( Hope they can get things done quickly so you can move back home!
OH. MY. GOODNESS. That is the worst returning-from-vacation story I have ever heard. I'm so sorry! (Glad you had a fun trip though). Um.. I think the top one sounds awesome, mostly because the smaller amount of glitter sounds pretty awesome. :) Whichever one you pick will look good I am sure.

I'd pick the top one too, based on your pictures. From what I can tell, except for the one picture, the coloring looks the same between the two. So that leaves the pattern. I think it looks like the first one is more of a consistent pattern (not as many big splotches). Like Brianna said, you don't want to get tired of it if it is too busy. Also, the second one seems to have a definite direction to the movement of the pattern. Depending on how your kitchen is designed, this can be tricky with corners and such... and will make the seams (if you need them) much more noticeable. Having said that, either will be beautiful, and really you are the best judge since you can see them in person.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you had to deal with this. Maybe you better plan a trip to CA over Christmas to get away :)
