tooth!

Ethan has a tooth! no pictures, because I haven't even seen it yet. This is partially because Ethan doesn't feel like showing me right now, but also because I'm thinking it's just the very very tip. But when I came home from work just now my mom said she'd seen it and I put my finger in his mouth and sure enough, there is a little sharp part on the bottom, slightly left of center part of his mouth!

In other news Ethan is a little baby-sitter. As in he sits well (and he's a baby). Kaylee can also sit, but she doesn't feel like it nearly as often, and she topples over more often. But in the past week or two their sitting skills have improved dramatically. And Ethan does push-ups whenever he's on his tummy and Kaylee has been seen doing the occasional push up as well. I was thinking that crawling was a long way off, but now I'm sure it won't be right away, but I can definitely see it coming. crazy.

6 Months

post written by Blake

The kiddos turned 6 months old his week!  So it's time for a blog summarizing the last 3 months of development.  Here it goes.
  • Eating - the kids starting eating baby food.  Pears, peaches, prunes, peas, red and green soup, bananas, carrots, squash, apples, sweet potatoes, chocolate (more on that later), avocado.  Ethan likes to grab the spoon and feed himself.  Most of the time he grabs the part with the food on it, and then rubs the food everywhere.  Kaylee likes to regurgitate the food onto her bib, and then suck on her bib.
  • Running - the kiddos have started to go for runs in a jogging stroller.  Today, we took them to a 5K around Greenlake.  Also, they've started twice-weekly runs with dad in the morning before work.
  • Laughing.  Ethan likes to laugh when thrown (gently) into the air, Kaylee laughs when tickled (especially by mom).
  • Sitting - Ethan sits on his own for moderate periods of time.  Eventually he tips himself over.  Kaylee has sat on her own too, but only a few times.
  • Rolling over - both babies have rolled a few times from their tummies onto their backs.  Ethan doesn't really like to be on his tummy because his head is giant. :D
  • Traveling - The babies flew on a plane to California in December, and drove to Portland in January.
  • Both babies have started to pass objects from from one of their hands to the other. the doc says this is the thing to do at this age. who knew?
  • Sleeping - Kaylee frequently sleeps for 8 hour stretches at night.  Ethan is more of a 6 hour sleeper, but we're working on that.  Both babies sleep in their cribs.
  • Screaming and yelling - Sometimes the kids will scream with joy, very intensely.  Sometimes they scream to each other back and forth.  Sometimes at night when Ethan is fussing, Kaylee will wake up and scream at Ethan; we imagine she is saying, "shut up and go to sleep!"
  • Kaylee
    • Weighs 14lbs 6.3oz - 23% for a girl her age
    • Is 2ft 1.75inches - 57% for a girl her age
    • Her head circumference is 16.85 inches - 66% for a girl her age
  • Ethan
    • Weighs 16lbs 6.9oz - 36% for boys his age - but he feels like he weighs 50 lbs
    • Is 2ft 1.75 inches - the same as Kaylee!  This is 32% for a boy his age
    • His head is 17.87 inches around - 92% for boys his age - very smart indeed
  • Ethan frequently wears 9 month clothes - Kaylee wears 6 monthers
  • Both babies wear size 2 diapers, but Ethan is almost ready for size 3
  • The babies are still cute!

kaylee rolls

look at me, I am now actually finishing all the posts I've started writing recently. this one kept on having errors uploading the video and then I finally realized it was a problem with the actual video file, not with the upload. so now I've remade the video and hopefully it will upload!

as promised, here's the video of kaylee rolling. she doesn't roll until the very end so you can skip ahead if you want (to about 1 minute), but my fav thing about this video is that as I'm filming it I don't actually think that she'll roll. She had rolled a few minutes earlier so I was like, well, I'll turn on the camera and see if she rolls again. But I didn't think she actually would! what you see here, is Kaylee's second legit roll EVER. I KNOW! ;) haha.

the last couple of days the kiddos have organized a boycott on full rolls, but they love to tease us with leans and stretches and frequently I push them over because I'm a bit impatient and just want them to roll already. but, they themselves are not impressed with rolling, so... it will all be in their own time. in other news, when he feels like it, ethan sits. more often he would rather topple over if it gets him closer to a toy, but if there's nothing to topple towards, he can sit on his own which is sorta neat. (also neat is that as long as he doesn't topple into anything, he doesn't mind the toppleing and can wiggle himself into a comfy position from there so there's no crying or fussing involved.)

anyways, here's the video!

workin' out

pretend I posted this last night. that's when I started writing it.

If I had written this post at 2 pm it would have begun like this: "O. M. G. I am SO amazing. I am an all star." etc. I was pretty impressed with myself.

If I had written this post at 3 pm it would have gone like this: "O. M. G. I am SO sore. It hurts to move, I will never move again." etc.

And if I were to not write this post until, say, Valentine's Day, it would go like this: "Blake is the most incredibly amazing husband ever."

So what did I do today (yesterday)?

Well, it starts with Blake being awesome, because it starts with sleep. Blake took the babies all night last night. Why? Because at 5:30 am I woke up to pump and get ready so that by 6:30 I was meeting Brianne and buying myself a nice little punch card at the Redmond Pool (which has reopened under new ownership). Ah but wait, I skipped a part of my day - while pumping I signed Blake and I up for the RainMan Triathlon. Yep, for Christmas Jackie got me a USAT (T for triathlon) membership and my goal is to get back into it. Progress prior to yesterday: none. But, I have multiple awesome supportive friends, and Brianne has been motivating me to start swimming with her again, so yesterday I finally did it.

As if that was not enough to impress you (and really, I was impressed with myself the night before when I shaved my legs) I also took the babies on a walk yesterday all by myself (sorta). Where did you walk, Dana, and why sorta? Well, I'll tell you.

Earlier this week somebody posted on EMOMs that they wanted to walk with someone around Redmond Ridge. And somebody else said, "Join me for a walk around Kirkland on Thursday at noon." So I joined them! Packed up the babies, packed up our new fancy Bob stroller into the trunk (which includes taking off all three wheels), and drove to Kirkland. We met near the intersection of Park St & Lake St and we walked along Lake all the way down to Carillon Point and back. It was like 4 miles (according to the mom leading the walk, I can't estimate distances myself). 4 miles, 4 moms, 8 babies. we were pretty funny looking.

if you're still waiting for the impressive part, that was it. insert applause here. blake gets applause too because he knew I would be tired so he came home from work half an hour early and watched the babies while I napped before tutoring (he then got his own turn napping while I tutored). pretty awesome and supportive husband I have.

things 1 & 2

happy birthday ev-dogg. :)

in honor of Evan's birthday I will share some pics of the kiddos in outfits that Evan and Alyssa purchased. I do eventually plan to make a photobook of the babies' first year - here are two pages of that book with pictures I took last week.
